Case study
Royal Voluntary Service
We have been helping Royal Voluntary Service with training and reflective practice sessions
What we did
Mental health first aid
We trained Mental Health First Aiders from various departments to provide initial support to those who need it.
Bespoke courses
We developed and delivered live trainer led virtual sessions around safe suicide conversations and self care.
Reflective practice
We delivered trainer led group reflective practice sessions to offer support and for people to reflect on their experiences
One to one support
We provided one to one support calls, giving people safe space to talk and help develop resilience during difficult times.
We are supporting Royal Voluntary Service with training and providing group and individual reflective practice sessions. Royal Voluntary Service is delivering the NHS Volunteer Responders Programme on behalf of NHS England.
What the client said
"We have been working with Oakwood since 2019 when they trained our Mental Health First Aiders. Royal Voluntary Service is delivering the NHS Volunteer Responders Programme in relation to COVID-19 and Oakwood have developed bespoke courses for us that have been delivered through live trainer-led virtual sessions.
These have included awareness programs on safe suicide conversations, self-care and group reflective practice. They have also provided one to one wellbeing support calls for members of our team. The virtual courses and support calls have been tailored to meet our specific needs and have been extremely well received by our team.
It's made a real difference in bringing groups together to talk about real-world examples so they can reflect on what they did and improve learning. It's also really helped build people's personal resilience during these difficult and challenging times. Oakwood have been very helpful and supportive and it's been a pleasure working with Gemma, Terry and the rest of the team."

What the client said
"We were looking for a partner, who had a positive approach to Mental Health & Wellbeing. Someone who could convey the message in an engaging way while still being laser sharp about the seriousness of taking care of your own wellbeing. It was important to select a program, which could embrace our Colgate Culture and at the same time tap straight into various local cultures and allow each individual to feel invited and listen to.
The program has been a great success with incredible high participation on both the virtual instructor-led sessions and the eLearning modules. What we particularly love is the bite-sized, fun and interactive way the eLearning is constructed with a great variety to keep the learner hooked.
The equal and unpretentious dialogue Oakwood masters creates psychological safety and opens up for dialogue, vulnerability - and the opportunity to proactively take responsibility"

Oakwood's approach to Mental Health training was perfectly pitched for a senior team. The training was engaging, accessible, informative, important and mind-broadening. We came away with a much clearer picture of how mental health issues affect people at work.
