Case study
Marie Curie
Supporting Marie Curie with blended Mental Health and Personal Safety training since 2017
What we did
Top down approach
We developed and delivered training from the CEO, to Senior Leaders, managers and frontline employees and volunteers across the charity.
Bespoke courses
We developed and delivered training programmes to meet Marie Curie’s specific needs, including blended Personal Mental Health and Personal Safety courses.
Online learning
Online Conflict Management and Mental Health Awareness programmes to reach as many people as possible.
Face to face courses
Comprehensive Mental Health and Persona Safety awareness training programs reflecting regional and team differences.
Marie Curie has 4,000 paid employees and over 9,000 regular volunteers spread across a variety of teams and services from frontline hospice and community nurses to retail stores.
Senior leaders wanted to ensure that they developed a culture with the wellbeing of their people at the very heart.
We developed a more holistic training package that joins the dots between conflict and wellbeing. Conflict can impact our wellbeing, but our state of wellbeing can also influence our response to conflict.
We created and delivered comprehensive face to face training and online programs, reflecting regional and team differences.
We developed a 'whole organisation approach' starting with tailored training session for Directors and Senior leaders
We identified that some people, on call managers, for example, needed additional support and we tailored our courses to include vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue and burnout.
We trained Mental Health First Aiders and developed an ongoing programme of support for them.
What the client said
"Oakwood are incredibly customer-focused, taking the time to really understand the different levels of support we need. Oakwood partnered with us in 2018 rolling out numerous mental health and personal safety programmes to our retail, hospice, fundraising and community teams.
They are also helping us with some bespoke support for lone workers at night. The evaluations have been outstanding and the feedback from staff very strong "
